질문 jil-mun

Question

What does 질문 mean?

질문 (jil-mun) means: Question.

Often unanswered. The protagonist is left with endless '질문' (questions) about why the relationship failed, tossing and turning at night.

◆ The lingering existential loop — In Korean artistic expression, a '질문' is rarely a quest for factual information; it is an open wound. It represents the recursive loop of overthinking past failures where the asker already knows no satisfying resolution is coming.

🔊 From part 2’s story

한계 — Han-gye
감옥 — Gam-ok
질문 — jil-mun
부딪혔어요 — budicheosseoyo
벗어날 수 없는 — beoseonal su eomneun, "unable to escape"
속에서 — sok-eseo
더 이상 버티기 힘든 한계에 부딪혔어요 — listen & repeat
우리의 추억은 벗어날 수 없는 감옥 같아 — listen & repeat

Other sides of 질문

◆ interrogation — While textbooks teach '질문' as a polite request for information, natives weaponize it in compounds like '질문하다' to signal an interrogation. It turns a classroom query into a cross-examination where the asker is hunting for flaws, inconsistencies, or a confession. If someone says '너 나한테 지금 질문하는 거야?', they aren't asking what you want to know—they are demanding why you're putting them on trial.

◆ discourse marker — When a native opens a sentence with '질문인데,' they are rarely looking for information. Instead, they are performing a rhetorical judo move: using the semantic halo of an innocent inquiry to soften, license, or weaponize an upcoming opinion that everyone in the room knows is none of their business. Learners treat this as a literal request for knowledge, walking straight into a trap where 'I have a question' actually means 'Prepare yourself for my hot take.'
