간접화법 (gan-jeop-hwa-beop) means: Indirect speech / Indirect quotation — reporting the substance of what someone said rather than their exact words.
Unlike English indirect speech where tense shifts backward ('is' becomes 'was'), Korean indirect speech preserves the tense relative to the original utterance while changing the final sentence-closing marker.
